Some people just can’t sit still. When Mick and his wife sold their label and hang tag business in Lake Zurich, IL they moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. After a few months of retirement Mick was always thinking of products that he could make to take advantage of his manufacturing and marketing skills.
The record-breaking snowfall of 2018/2019 had the local stores sold out of snow rakes to remove snow from his roof. Mick created a tear drop shaped band of steel from ¾" steel strapping used by plumber years ago to support heavy cast iron drain lines. After a couple of versions “the LOOPER” was born using 1 ¼" wide spring steel bolted to and aluminum adapter that threads into a standard retractable handle.
The lightweight but sturdy LOOPER and handle were a success.
The next product was Mick’s Live Box for keeping fish. 20+ years ago he made one for himself. He still has that original box which is a testament to the durability of the product. A couple Summers ago he asked his grandson, Troy, to put a bluegill in the box while he took a short video. Troy is a natural salesman as seen on the short video on this website.
The third product was decorated canoe paddles with a function of being a bath towel holder or coat rack. He saw a lakeside cabin on HGTV using old oars with metal cleats to hold towels. The colorful paddles are Made in U.S.A. and are a fun, artsy expression with a function.
His wholesale customers can choose the color of the paddle, color of the cleat, color of the graphic and the graphic design. The ultimate customization.
What’s next? Who knows. As he walks Wrigley, the golden retriever, he has time to think... ‘what if’.
Stay tuned for updates, photos and what might be coming next.
